They are not mine. They belong to the late great Ashley Bryan. We read his book Beautiful Blackbird tonight. It’s a story about how true beauty always comes from within. Also how no matter how much we may feel invisible everyone wants what they think black folks have. Of course he meant for this to represent black birds, but if you remove the word bird, you will see that everything black is still the most beautiful of them all. My message to my kids.
